Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
WHAT IS CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD?
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Catholic faith formation process for children aged 3 to 12 years, in which they are invited to experience and form an authentic, faithful relationship with God.
The Catechesis is grounded in scriptural and liturgical study framed by Maria Montessori’s principles of education. This allows children to hear the Gospel through the use of sensorial rich materials. The children are free to work with these materials that represent essential proclamations of the Catholic faith.
PURPOSE
To introduce the child to Jesus through scriptures and the prayers of the liturgy and the sacraments.
It is about building a relationship between the child and God.
BACKGROUND
Began in 1954 with Dr.Sofia Cavalletti, a Hebrew and Scripture scholar and member of the Vatican Commission for Jewish – Christian Relations, and her colleague, Professor Gianna Gobbi, a Montessori trained educator. Today, CGS is found in at least 20 countries.
There are now 11 CGS Atria in Catholic churches and Catholic-based schools across Singapore.
THE ATRIUM IS ….
-
- a place of prayer and meditation,
- a place where the only Teacher is Christ,
- a place where we are invited by Christ to become like little children and to journey together with the child deep into the heart of our God,
- a place where every work of the child is either a passage to prayer or prayer itself.
