Maranatha, meaning ‘Come, Lord Jesus’, is a youth group that serves as a platform for youths to explore the various forms of prayers such as Praise and Worship, Taize, Reflective and Rosary.
This exposure enables youths to make themselves comfortable with prayer – the basic communication with God. Coming to 14 years of age, Maranatha has nurtured creativity in prayer and seen member strength growing.
Over the years, we have conducted Prayerwalk, an annual Advent event held over the evenings of one week. During Prayerwalk, a short prayer session is conducted at the homes of parishioners. Each evening, we split into small groups of 5 or 6 and visit 2 or 3 houses.
Visitation is upon registration. As a small community, we pray with the families in preparation for Christmas. We visit an average of 50 houses each year. Through Prayerwalk, we build relations with other parishioners and create an awareness of the different forms of prayer.
We have organized Easter Fiesta – an event to celebrate and spread the joy of Easter. We held an Children / Youth Art Competition that showcased our young talents and creativity. We had a butterfly tattoo booth where our mascots liven the atmosphere, mingled with the younger children and highlighted the significance of Easter using butterflies as a symbol of new life.
Easter Praise, a short praise and worship session held for all to join in the praise of our risen Christ. It was also an opportunity for our members to lead worship before a crowd.
We also staged Prayer Rally, a call to all youths – from schools to the various youth groups in Singapore – to gather in a night of thanksgiving and worship; it is an answer to God’s call to a renewal in every young Catholic’s prayer life. The theme, My One Desire was designed to create an input, an experience and a participation in every youth.
No matter the age, there is space in our relationship with God; there is always more to give, and there is always more to receive. Prayer Rally saw a crowd of 700 people coming together and praising the Lord in unison.
Founded upon a culture of fellowship and faith formation, Maranatha continues to help the youths of our parish grow into a truly vibrant Christian community that is loving to one another.
Come, see and join! Our weekly meetings are on Saturdays, 3pm, at Room 102.
